PhotoNaturae 2009 Competition
The world of photography – and nature photography is no exception – is swarming with contests. Some are more important and some less, but there is a widespread tendency to advertise the great value of prizes, wheter they maybe real or not.
Let’s be straight with this: prizes’ value has become the grassroots factor. A professional camera, a lens, a tripod, the occasional binocular or money can make a great difference. But would you think that a contest without prizes is automatically less worth in terms of quality?
Well, this first edition of PhotoNaturae 2009 Competition is going to be an important (we believe), authoritative, no-material-prizes contest.
Those who are already frowning on this, may as well stop reading.
Prizes imply money, money sponsors and, sometimes, sponsors mean compromises and the acceptance of imposed rules (which readers won’t ever be aware of). Until today, Naturae has managed its way through a rather fortunate journey without any “help from the outside”: we have gained a reputation as reliable and indipendent, in a field full of colourful pages packed with ads. This time we will stick to our philosophy once again and we won’t look for any kind of “funder” for the first edition of our contest. No sponsors and no prizes, just a podium and a laurel crown.
Follow us only if you believe in values and not in valuable goods, because that’s our background.
In the rules section you will find out who the members of the jury are. Together with names that some of you may know, we have decided to include people who are not closely related to nature photography, but have a great knowledge of communication through images. We thought that this choice could bring a better and wider approach to evaluation itself.
For future memory of this PhotoNaturae 2009, every partecipant will be sent a 64-pages finely printed book containing all the awarded photographs and those which will receive a mention - hence the fee required with the application.
We are looking forward to receiving your photos!
